The team does not want to move Mark Loretta from second to third after he returns from surgery on his left thumb, probably near the end of July. The Padres would like to upgrade at third, perhaps with a player such as Indians IF Jose Hernandez or Diamondbacks IF Alex Cintron if they can't get Reds 3B Joe Randa. The Diamondbacks have little interest in trading Cintron.
Wow. When Jose Hernandez or Alex Cintron is an upgrade, you know your third basemen sucks.
And I would think Randa is available at the right price.
In all honesty, I think they'll end up getting Randa. Cincy really wants to move him this year and bring up Encarnacion to play 3rd regularly. If the Pads can get healthy by September, look out National League.
To be perfectly honest, I'm content with Damian Jackson, Xavier Nady, EY, and Blum splitting time at third. Not worth giving up a lot at this point when the other have shown they can step up. As long as it's not Burroughs, I'm happy .
Toronto has 3 third baseman in Hinske, Koskie and Hillenbrand. Even if they still thinkn they can compete in the East, their is no reason I can think off not to move one of them.
