Pat Burrell just got put on waivers in my Yahoo league and I had wanted to pick him up. The problem is figuring out who to drop for him. This problem is compounded by the fact that I still have Webb on my DL (my pitching numbers were good enough for last week that I didn't activate him, but I can't see keeping him out of the lineup for another start - plus, I can't make any other transactions with him still sitting there).
Does anyone have any suggestions for who is the most droppable (first and second)?
Here is my roster:
C: LoDuca (Piazza on the DL)
1B: Casey
2B: Vidro
SS: Renteria
3B: Glaus
OF: Pierre, Winn, Giles, Wilkerson
Util: Edgar Martinez
SP: Zito, Lieter, Oswalt, Willis, Lohse, Kim, Santana, Clement (Webb on the DL)
RP: Guardado, Julio, Looper
I wouldnt usually recommend burrell, his avg. is at the mendoza line but you need hrs. drop winn is doesnt get as many steals as he used to, keep wilkerson for avg. he is around .300
I'd agree with the majority here, Winn is the first to go, then Wilkerson.
Come mid July I think you will be able to start reaping the benefits of picking up Burrell. I beleive that once he gets it goin, he will be on fire. Of course, I also thought that he would get out of his funk by now.
The problem with dropping Winn for Burrell is that this still doesn't solve my Webb problem. In order to even consider picking up anyone else, I need to first get Webb of my DL.
My thoughts were that I should drop Casey and play Wilkerson at first (to clear space for Webb), and possibly drop Clement for Burrell.
I am wary of dropping Winn though because he is my only other player besides Pierre who is in double digits in stolen bases. I have been a consistent winner in the SB category every week, and Winn has had something to do with that (and God forbid anything happns to Pierre, I will need those SB's that Winn provides that much more).
Just wondering, doesn't have anything to do with this topic but I saw it come up. What exactly is the mendoza line? I've heard the term used before but never knew what it was. If someone could enlighten me I would appreciate it.
Look at Burrell's first and second half season splits from last year. A lot of people think that can happen again; picking him up hoping for that second half tear is probably worth the risk.
The Mendoza line is a mythical line that represents a .200 batting average. It's horrible, in other words.
LeiterFan (by the way, are you really a fan of his?), I say dump Winn and Casey. I'd screw stolen bases. I'm not a fan of Winn, and Wilkerson will probably be a better 1b. And Burrell is bound to take off soon (I hope so... I just picked him off the WW, too).
