It seems like it's a pretty heated debate, with the fans on one side and the ownership squarely on the other. I'm not sure where I stand on this one really since I can't get KMOX for some reason (let alone KTRS) and I usually just catch the games on MLB.tv, but it seems like it could be a disaster long term if it goes through.

I live about 30 miles east of STL and I can't get KTRS to come in.
Seems like a dumb move on the surface but who knows the difference in the incomes. As for selling the team the owners don't need a radio station to drive up the price. A championship caliber team with a new stadium and its core players locked up would be easy to sell.

the latest story paints a little different picture than some of the earlier stories. previous articles repeatedly mention that KMOX was upping their offer and sort of paint the cardinals as the bad guy and now you have the cardinals saying KMOX cut the amount of guaranteed money and if they had actually offered what was reported they would accept:

And in addressing the $7.5 million figure, Lamping said, "If you can get that in writing, we'd probably throw a press conference" to announce a deal with KMOX.

i am not really following it too closely since i am out of the area and use mlb.tv. i think the cards are aware of the discrepancy in broadcast range. thats why they havent done the KTRS deal already because it would clearly make them more money. they are exploring ways to get greater range with KTRS by hooking up with some other partners and stuff like that.

Looks like it's pretty much a done deal now. I don't really care either way really since I can't get either station here, but it has been kind of interesting to follow. I guess they figure the additional revenue from buying the station will outweigh the possibility of alienating fans who will no longer be able to pick up the broadcasts. I'm probably making too much of it, but anyway, thought it was interesting.
