I think it was wishful thinking to believe that Beane would trade this guy to the Yankees.

Looks like he's not going anywhere now.
The price was too high anyway.
Any dollar numbers?

I hope not. The asking price has been too high.

from rotoworld....
According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, the A's and Mark Kotsay have agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract extension through 2008.
The agreement also eliminates Kotsay's ability to void his deal for 2006. Kotsay also gets a no-trade clause through the end of next year. This looks like a pretty good signing for Oakland, but if the A's are keeping Kotsay, we don't see what the point of acquiring Jay Payton would be. Jul. 9 - 2:19 pm et

I wanted Kotsay but not if the price was Duncan and/or others. I'd rather see what Melky has got and if he sucks, go get someone in the offseason.
Interesting move from the A's though. Beane had said he didn't see an extension happening but unless it's a sign and trade, he was wrong.
