I think I remember reading something about his teammates saying that he looked like a Donkey and that team management was calling him a Project. They stuck the two words together and got Pronk.

His coaches/teammates had given a couple of nicknames when he was a minor leaguer/rookie. One was The Project (since the coaches were always having to work on something with him, like his stance, swing) and another was Donkey (something to do with his resemblance to Shrek and his pal Donkey). He claimed it was too much to have two nicknames so they combined it into Pronk.

Yep, Project Donkey ...that's correct. I think they should PROMON project monster. That guy is seeing balloons right now.
