His coaches/teammates had given a couple of nicknames when he was a minor leaguer/rookie. One was The Project (since the coaches were always having to work on something with him, like his stance, swing) and another was Donkey (something to do with his resemblance to Shrek and his pal Donkey). He claimed it was too much to have two nicknames so they combined it into Pronk.
