espn asked smoltz what he thought about curt going to the pen, and he said that there are only a couple guys in the majors who could handle it, and curt was one of them, citing his super competitive nature and his repertoire of pitches. I don't doubt he'll be a great closer, but he can pitch 6 or 7 no problem, so we'd be wasting that talent.
IMO, it'd be cooler to have him as a long reliever, or to have him tag team games with Arroyo, where they'd each pitch 3 or 4 until he is back to full strength.

Timlin can close"
Agreed. Maybe tag team him with Wake to keep Arroyo at normal strength.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

seriously, though. Johnny is fully entitled to his opninion, but he really should confine those comments to the clubhouse and possibly just the manager's office. his concern is valid, but there is no point in trumpetting it around the media.

LOL Check out the contreversy between Damon's wife and Schilling's wife. Now that we are on topic
From Rotoworld:
Johnny Damon's outspoken comments about teammate Curt Schilling could have stemmed from an incident between their wives during last year's ALCS.
Accoring to the Boston Herald, Shonda Schilling passed out scarfs to all the wives during last year's ALCS against the Yankees. Michelle Damon, Johnny's wife now and fiance at the time, was the only one that refused to wear the scarf. Michelle even griped after the Sox fell in Game 3, ''A lot of good those (bleeping) scarves have done.'' To which Shonda Schilling replied ''Well, if you were wearing one maybe your fiance wouldn't be 0-for-16.'' Red Sox family day is going to be a blast this year.
