Why couldn't they cut out that dumb canadian sport where they roll some plastic thing down the ice and two people sweep in front of it..now that is a worthless sport.

To be factually correct it's a Scottish sport, but I do agree being so dorkey the Canadians have really taken to it.

Yes, we've got darts here. Some of us are pretty decent at it too.

Cricket is my favorite dart game. Once I lead off with trip 20, trip 20, trip 19, it's all over but the crying.

They have Ballroom freaking Dancing in the Olympics but no baseball or softball. What a crock Based on their argument, that the best players won't be there, that doesn't apply to softball at all. At the absolute least, softball should have stayed, but they probably didn't want to see the US destroy everyone in softball again

you'd think with all the sports in the olympics that have strong appeal to only such small interest groups, such as curling or synchronized swimming, that baseball and softball could garner enough interest to make it worth it. a sad time in olympic history indeed...

I just read in ESPN the Mag that there was some sport for professional video gamers that was getting so popular (especially in Asia) that they were thinking of lobbying to get it added to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Is it just me, or does that, coupled with the removal of Baseball, infuriate anyone else?

well. the whole team sports thing in the olympics is somewhat weird.

for instance, if i recall correctly, soccer is a U20 tournament (under 20) but with three or so exceptions per team. so you have a few "mentor" players and a bunch of youngen's.

basketball is clearly 99% pro.

volleyball is all pro too, I think.

baseball was a strange mix -- it's pros, but it's the minors. I think that's where it missed out...

No, it missed out because unlike soccer, basketball and volleyball baseball is not a true international sport. In reality, only a handful of countries play the game to an international level.
