After another owner put a big DO NOT TRADE FOR GUARDADO post on the message board explaining that I was feverishly trying to move him fearing a trade, I am now stuck with him. What are the chances he actually gets traded. Do I have any chance of persuading the league he doesn't get traded or should I just waive him now?
You should start by punching the guy who wrote that right in the mouth.
Don't waive Guardado yet, you never know where he might go. What if he goes to Boston and takes over as closer there? That'd be a nice little upgrade considering the Red Sox will win 30 more games than the M's this year.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
Of course you don't waive him, he has been one of the best closers in baseball. You should inflict some pain on yourself for even contemplating the action - maybe it will prevent you from doing so again in the future.
By all means, don't drop him, especially if your league has holds as one of the scoring catagories. Eddie will continue to pitch for someone, somewhere. Continue shopping him around, you may get lucky! I'd keep an eye on the situation and start reading up on the Mariner bullpen to see if anyone would have an inside track to the closing job.
Here's a name to keep in mind...Rafael Soriano. I went out on a limb and picked him up. But don't take my word as gospel, I'm in seventh place!

I can't stand third party advice!
Successfully manipulating the politics between owners is just as important a factor in winning fantasy baseball leagues as everything else. If releasing negative press against a competitor's players can hamper his trading efforts, I say go for it.

True, but the negatives likely would outweigh the positives. A guy acts like this and other people in the league, esp the Eddie owner, ain't going to deal with him in any productive way (trades, etc) througout the season. Guy's like this take the fun out.
Alright, did I miss something? Waive Guardado? The most recent rumor I heard is Guardado to the Red Sox, (rotoworld) which would actually raise his value. Have people heard rumors about teams trading for him to be their setup man?? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'm sure there are certain GM's willing to pay closer's prices for a MR, given the state of certain contender's bullpens.
Finally, not to steal this thread, but if or when Eddie gets traded, who immediately steps into the role? I assumed it would be Putz. Any Mariners fans have an idea?
