Can anyone confirm, deny, and or add on to this cbs.sportsline writers ranking and projected call up of around July 2005?? I'm excited if we see him in July sometime.
This was from a near-futures ranking, with Delmon of course #1...
1. RF Delmon Young, 19, Tampa Bay Devil Rays
.340 average, 19 homers, 69 RBI, 57 runs, 24 stolen bases in Double-A
We consider him the best prospect since Ken Griffey Jr., and he should make his big-league debut as a teen-ager, too. He turns 20 in September, but once the Devil Rays start selling off their parts this July, we should see Young get the call. They have already said Young is going to move to Triple-A very soon, but he won't spend much time in Durham. Pick him up immediately if you have reserve spots open in AL-only leagues.
ETA: July 2005
Currently owned in: 8 percent of leagues
Long-term projection: .300-40-110-110-40

from my friends at durham,,, the original plan was for delmon to make a september appearance this year in the bigs,,,,, but with rocco being out all year and if the drays make some big selling moves this july, you may very well see delmon late july or early august......
Young is an amazing prospect that does every thing very well. At the plate, he hits for plus average, plus power, and has good speed on the basepaths. In the field, he's a good defender with a ridiculously strong arm that rivals that of Ichiro, Mondesi, and Vlad. There isn't any thing he can't do. With that said, he can still do certain things better at the minor league level, and should remain down there until at least August, if not September.
