LMAO
Mainly, I play in free leagues so I don't hae to waste my money. Pretty good Idea if you ask me.
Why do anything for anything? People play because they enjoy it, and it's fun. Glad I could help.
This is a ridiculous thread.
Kurt, do you mean to tell me that you bet money on everything that has a degree of competition to it? Computer games? Console games? Board games? Cards? Sports? Everything? If you've played any of these without gambling than you can anwer your own stupid post. If not, you might want to visit the following link:

i've personally never been a big fan of playing for money but the league i play in changed to a $50 entry fee. the money gets split to the top 4 teams to place...3rd breaking even and 4th getting $25. i can say it matters to you when you are in 5th or 4th and you know you can't win but if things can just go your way the last week you can break even or make back half. the top 2 spots get the big winnings but i still play for bragging rights..sure, the money would be nice but the rubbing the noses in it lasts a life time.
Boy I sure got some of you free league guys fired up. Seriously, why so defensive and combative?
And if this question is so stupid, why are you answering it?
I guess it didn't fall into your definition of a question that really makes you think like...."Hey bubba, do ya think my favorite 1st baseman will hit me a homer today?"
Must of struck a deep nerve with the penny pinchers that went on a rant. Take a valium and pass out already.
Because it is near impossible to get a league together with your friends/co workers. At least it was for me. Football is easy to set up, but most people I know aren't as into baseball as I am. So doing an online, free league is fun, and is good practice so to speak.
lemme guess kurt, when you have kids (if you have kids) you will charge them money for food, because giving it to them for free will not generate any revenue?
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

Kurt...if you can't get enjoyment out of a pastime without money being at risk, you're the one who needs to do the self-examination.
Not that there's anything wrong with playing in money leagues, but if the $$$ are the sole motivation, there's more of a problem on that side of the fence than the other.
I compete to win at virtually everything. The amount of money involved, if any, has little to do with it.
And the idea this has anything to do with being overly thrifty is totally off base.
