who to get now that dreifort's out?

Postby adraw34 » Sat Jun 07, 2003 8:27 pm

I am in a very deep league of 15 teams with large rosters and losing dreifort leaves me with very little to choose from among the free agents. any suggestions on who i should pick up from the following list?

Jeremi Gonzalez
Paul Wilson
Shawn Estes
Tanyon Sturtze
Claudio Vargas
Jeremy Bonderman
Mark Hendrickson
Brian Anderson
Mike Maroth
Glendon Rusch
Jason Davis
Jason Simontacchi

All of those options are very ugly, and they all will hurt your ERA and WHIP if you use them. Here are two suggestions that might be the best of a scary bunch. First choice would be Hendrikson. He doesn't get many K's and has been shaky lately but plays for a team with a very potent offense and gets lots of run support, which means he should at least contribute some wins. The other suggestion would be Simontacchi, for the same reasons.

That said, you might do more harm than good using any of these guys. I would consider picking up a solid middle reliever and using him instead of replacing Dreifort because the wins from using a shaky starter probably aren't worth the damage in other starts.

Any semi-decent relivers left? Someone that won't help much, but at least won't hurt you? For example Javier Lopez of Colorado 0.78ERA, 0.65WHIP, 20K in 23IP. Out of that list I wouldn't even know where to start :(

Despite Javier Lopez's stats if I had to pick a middle reliever to not hurt me, there is no way that I would use a Colorado middle reliever. The potential for huge innings is just too high.

wilsons coming off 2 good starts, you could chance him. Bonderman has the best arm by far. If he gets hot, get him.
