Let me preempt this with saying I completely agree with the fact that Pronk definately got shafted and Hillenbrand in no way deserves to be an all-star over him. But, the thing with the Hafner vs. Hillenbrand argument that you have to remember is that the voting by the players (who voted Hillenbrand in), started about 10 days ago or so. Look at Hafner's stats versus Hillenbrand's as of June 22th: (I threw these nubmers out in the original baseball leftovers thread about the allstar rosters, but it kind of got lost in all the other brew haha)
- Code: Select all
AVG HR RBI
Hafner .279 10 34
Hillenbrand .305 8 32
Back when ballots were first starting to be cast a decent case could be made for Shea, even though now it's laughable. Bottom line is that Pronk just got hot too late to get the votes. Definately stinks that Hafner didn't make the team. I would have rather seen him get the spot that Francona selected over Wicky.
