Wagner has a reason to be PO'ed, in my opinion. It seems he should be getting more save chances. What do y'all think Philly needs before the trade deadline...I could see another SP or bat, but I don't know what they'd give up...they're hurting for whatever reason. Is it team chemistry?
I think Phillies problem has been inconsistent Bull-pen as well as the staff ace (leiber) has been sucking lately(given up 22HR). Leiber's sinker just isn't sinking. Plus they are paying David Bell alot of money to suck and Jimy Rollins just isn' thitting like a lead-off hitter!
Seems like SP is the number one downfall. A bat would help, but when Thome finally comes around it might not be as much of a problem. But Padilla is AWFUL and Lieber has completely fallen off since his great April. Bullpen is pretty weak after Wagner and Madsen, I believe. But I'd love to hear a Philly fan's take.
They dont have any heart. A trade won't help unless its for someone that will breathe some life into this team and kick some butt.
Its been the same every year. Players cry and get all huffy and defensive when their perfomance is questioned, especially when they've just gotten done stinking up the joint. They cry about the size of the field (as though they weren't allowed to hit in the same field), moan about the tough fans, tough media, tough city, tough division, but no show of toughness from the players.
Of course this is impossible to prove but I think so too.
Being a Mets fan I get to watch the Phillies quite a bit and that's exactly how they come across. Yesterday the camera's showed Phillies lounging in the dugout yawning and totally uninterested in the game. Lieberthal has to come in and replace the fiery Pratt and the dude was so hung over (apparently) that he couldn't even keep his head in the game.
It seems like Rollins, Lofton and Utley are the only guys that play with any fire on that team. Abreu may be a fantasy stud but he is a pathetically disinterested real life player as well as Thome and Pat the Bat.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I find this very interesting. Can you cite any examples of this? I don't get to see the Phillies very often, so this really surprises me, especially about Abreu
