This one might not be so cut-and-dried as the AL...
Chris Carpenter - 11-4, 2.77, 113.2 IP, 98 H, 29 BB, 112 K, .235 BAA; 2nd in NL in Ks, CGs; 3rd in W; Best pitcher on best team (no offense to Mulder)
Roger Clemens - 6-3, 1.50, 108 IP, 70 H, 32 BB, 104 K, .182 BAA; Leads NL in ERA, 2nd in WHIP, BAA; Imagine what he'd do with an offense behind him
Livan Hernandez - 11-2, 3.32, 119.1 IP, 121 H, 45 BB, 71 K, .268 BAA; 2nd in NL in W, IP; El Presidente obviously enjoying his new home (and more hometown popularity than his counterpart in the White House )
Pedro Martinez - 9-2, 2.74, 115 IP, 72 H, 22 BB, 123 K, .177 BAA; Leads NL in WHIP, K, BAA; He's set the Wayback Machine to 2000
Roy Oswalt - 10-7, 2.54, 120.1 IP, 104 H, 25 BB, 82 K, .233 BAA; Leads NL in IP, 3rd in ERA; Wins despite offensive woes
Jake Peavy - 7-2, 2.88, 100.0 IP, 75 H, 20 BB, 110 K, .207 BAA; 3rd in NL in BAA, WHIP, K; No-hit stuff every time he takes the ball
Dontrelle Willis - 12-3, 2.04, 114.2 IP, 108 H, 22 BB, 85 K, .253 BAA; Leads NL in W, CG, 2nd in ERA; Amazing start a bright spot for underachieving Fish

Obvious? I'm not so sure. Less K's, more BB, higher BAA, higher WHIP than Pedro. I'm not knocking Clemens as your choice. He's a great choice, as are a number of guys on this list. I don't think you can honestly call him the 'obvious' choice given the list, only because nobody is the obvious choice.

His ERA is a full run better though. That's more important to me than K's or BAA.
I think the Met fan in you is swaying your opinion.
Clemens is the obvious choice to me, with Dontrelle second
