The Boston Globe reports Edgar Renteria has told the Red Sox he would consider a position switch when prospect Hanley Ramirez is ready for the big leagues. "His talent is incredible," Renteria said. "When you see someone you like, you're happy for them, you want them to play well. I don't mind that he plays my position. He has the talent to play, if there are ways for him to make it - for him to move to another position or me to move to another position."
Renteria, who has a sore wrist, returned to action in Monday's 7-0 loss to Cleveland. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and is hitting .273 for the season.
that is a interesting idea... and it would greatly help edgars value if he were to move to 2b..... if i were the sox though, i would want to make sure that would be the right move though,,, as they still have time now to give hanley a year or so in the minors at 2b.....
And really, does it matter much wrt fantasy.? The guy is a mediocre at best SS who sometimes has had good seasons...would be the same at 2b. Anywhere else he would lose value.
Why? May be the most likely but, Womack has played OF as have other guys like Biggio. Damon is a free agent next year. Do not know what the contract of Bellhorn or Mueller is for 06. I could see him going anywhere if they were really serious about switching him. 2b is the most natural position for a SS to switch to obviously though.

huh?? We're talking about him gaining eligibility would boost his value.....
I really am not sure if he meant 2b or 3b. I mentioned this in aanother thread that an infield of Youkilis at 1b, Renteria at 3b, Hanley at SS, and Pedroia at 2b is the future Sox infield. Additionally, Hanley is not a "mediocre" SS or 2b. He is an incredible talent that has 20/20/.300 potential and is the prince of the Red Sox system, which is increasingly growing some actually talented players.

For one year...And that bump is not meaningful outside of some roster flexibilty. Is Reyes all that more valuable as a 2b/ss as opposed to a 2b? Not really.
they would be better off trading him. 10 million a year is a bit steep for a decent fielding weak bat 3b. even though he says he is open to a change that is the sort of thing that might prevent edgar from being in a comfort zone which is in my opinion an important factor in him being productive.
