Rogers Out With Broken Hand

The Dallas Morning News' Ben Shpigel is reporting Texas Rangers SP Kenny Rogers (hand) fractured the fifth metacarpal, the bone below his pinky finger, in his right, or non-throwing, hand after he punched a water cooler in the Rangers' dugout shortly after leaving his start June 17 against the Washington Nationals.

Rogers will miss his scheduled start June 28 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and is likely out 10 to 12 days. "It's an emotional game," Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. "Most of the time you don't break a bone."

Rogers may miss only one start with the broken bone he sustained in his non-pitching hand, the Associated Press reports.

Rogers missed his turn Tuesday night against the Angels because of the small broken bone at the base of his right (non-throwing) pinkie. Manager Buck Showalter said Rogers could start this weekend at Seattle. "That's what we're hoping," Showalter said. "Any of those three days, depending on how he progresses..."

Rogers could be facing a team suspension for his altercation with team media before Wednesday's game, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

"What Kenny did was wrong, no question about it," owner Tom Hicks said. "He clearly crossed the line."

Jul 1 MLB Commissioner Bud Selig is expected to give Rogers a lengthy suspension and a substantial fine for his actions against two television cameramen on Wednesday.

Rogers shoved two cameramen before Wednesday's game against the Angels at Ameriquest Field, sending one to the hospital in a tirade which included him throwing a camera to the ground. That figures be the last toss the lefty makes on an MLB field for a while. Selig announced during a conference call on Thursday that he will handle the discipline personally. He is expected to announce a suspension and fine on Friday.
