Vlad in a Keeper

Postby rjforlife » Fri Jun 06, 2003 10:15 am

ive read a lot on this board about vlad but nothing really on what this does to his keeper value. clearly this isnt going to affect the rest of his career (that would be a shame). but how much does this 2/3 of a season affect him in a keeper league where we can keep player for 5 years without penalty and small penalties for every year after that?

advice needed here as i have been getting TONS of trade offers and want to know what to do with him.

I would say that regarless he has to be considered a top 7 keeper player for the next 5 years. He may not be his usual self at all this year, but he is still young and should bounce back very nicely next year. My keeper ranking would now be:

1. Soriano
2. Arod
3. Pujols
4. Prior
5. Zito
6. Vlad
7. Mulder/Oswalt

Post some of the trade offers that you are getting would likely make it easier to give you specific advice.

In general, it depends on whether you are playing to take it all this year or if you are looking to build to create a powerhouse for years to come, at some sacrifice of the present. If you're playing to win this year, and you are being offered a couple of solid players for Vlad, especially players that would be nice keepers themselves, I think you have to go for it. If you don't think that this year is your year and you are looking to build for next year and beyond, you want to hold on to Vlad unless you are totally blown away.
