I kept him over Burnitz. Byrnes is likely on my squad for a while.
I'm in the Bay Area, so I saw most of the game, and hear the Eric Byrnes talk. His hitting streak is over, but players go 04 all the time. He didn't look bad, and when he did get on base, he disrupted the pitcher a bit because he wants to steal more.
There will be some growing pains with him. I'll probably platoon him with Huff or any slumping OF I have. He looks like he will hit near .300 (he has a bit of a pad to work with), with some power and some speed. If he K's alot, then I'd start worrying, otherwise, he should get on base plenty, and score alot of runs.
Yes, the A's have several OF, but Byrnes was won a spot in the OF. Singleton and Long are going to have to fight for PT. Byrnes may get an occasional extra day of rest because it is convenient, but he has a spot in the OF.
I grabbed Burnitz because I had a spot open and he was hot. I played him today over Huff and Byrnes because he had 2 games. I haven't owned Burnitz in years, but I got exactly what I remebered. An 0-fer, and no hope of a steal, ever. I don't draft guys for steals, but I don't want a slow clod who is going to kill my average in hopes of an occasional HR.
