Could Mesa lose his closing job?

Postby flloyd » Thu Jun 05, 2003 11:29 pm

Mesa just blew another save today in a really close game giving up a three run bomb in the 9th to lose 5-4. With Rheal Cormier pitching like an ace is it possible that Mesa could lose his closing role or is he fairly secure? I just traded Ibanez and Wagner for Mesa and Thome and I would hate to see him lose his role. Although I still have Smoltz my saves would be seriously hurt.

Any thoughts?

I hope he does.

He probably won't though, because the Phillies don't really have anyone else to do the job. Carlos Silva? No thanks.

Why not Turk Wendell? He's been great, and he's had some really good years.

i dont think so. he is 15/18...thats not that bad and closer era/whip numbers are not really important (my opinion). a lot of guys dont like him and so i had no chance to trade him in my league...and i tried it really hard.
