What is Happening to Johan Santana?

Postby benjapage » Sat Jun 25, 2005 9:16 pm

another pathetic outing. this is not venting (although, *dang*...that was venting); i really need to know why suddenly, he stinks.

i know he had a somewhat ruff first half last year, but this is kind of scary. most scary are the walks.

any insight? are santana owners in trouble, now?

b
yeah, yes...

Hard to believe that every crew is pinching the guy.

Yeah the 0.93 WHIP, .210 BAA, and 124 K's in 107 IP is really something to be concerned about.

Nah...he had to stink it up to counteract Livan pitching well on my staff...can't have everyone pitch well on the same night. Might get the ERA under 4.

I seem to remember him doing okay in the second half last year. Might be a good idea to hold on to him. ;-7

Seriously, though... there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Milwaukee's not an auto-win by any means. The four walks were the only thing to be worried about at all, but it's really just a bad night.

He'll get some time off around the All-Star break (throw maybe an inning in the game), and he'll be back to form.

I traded for him 2 weeks ago. That is the problem. If you want him to start pitching well again I will have to move him :-P

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

I think Johan's main "problem" is that he's human and we expect him to be God.

he's pitching with the same dominance (see BAA, WHIP, K's) as he was before, but its the walks that are making the difference. he has supposedly had some problems with the strikezones in some of his outings. also, i expect that he is just getting slightly unlucky.
