Cantu is Better than Blalock....anyone disagree?

ok..in 30 less at bats,Cantu has the same # of HRs and 2 more rbis...he is batting 20 points higher than Blalock...he doesnt have any where the number of walks but that might come with maturity....he is 2 years younger than Hank..he is in a lineup that cant be compared to the studly Texas lineup and has zero protection....in 360 at bats last year in AAA he hit 22 hrs and had 80 rbis while hitting 300,not bad for a 22 year old kid..

There's another half of baseball that you're neglecting: defense. At this point in the year Cantu already has ten times as many errors as Blalock. One might think this is attributed to Cantu's time at second base, but at third base this year Cantu still has five times as many errors as Blalock in half as many games.

Cantu seems to be very streaky, HR wise. He has 5 this week and started the season hot. From 4/9 to 6/9 he had a total of 2 Homers.
That is not real consistent.
Tino Martinez was averaging a Home Run/day for a week and a half. Did you think, he was going to hit 60 this year? Cantu has 7 walks this year.
He has no plate discipline. He has going to get more as he gets older. Some people just like to hack and not take walks. See Garret Anderson.
If you think he has no protection in the lineup and has oodles of power, how do you explain 7 walks. Are the opposing pitchers just too stupid?

Burntiz is a very good all player. Although, his career OPS is inflated due to Coors.

Exactly, Hank had a long error-less streak broken this year but is still one of the better option defensively at 3B.(now that Chavez sucks there)

I have both, so I'll try to be as unbiased as possible here....Cantu is nowhere near as good as Blalock. This is not even worth discussing, honestly.

Blalock has been a class A prospect his whole life, has not disappointed in the Bigs, and hasn't done anything to make me believe he's even close to peaking.

On the other hand, Cantu was a relative unknown prior to this year, had one ridiculous hot streak early in the season, and another in the past week or two. Besides those few weeks the guy hasn't done much at all.

Comparing him to Blalock is a real mistake.

That being said, I hope they both hit 30+ HRs. I'm enjoying every one of them.
