Randy Johnson is reportedly suffering from back pain, even though the Yankees are doing their best to keep it quiet.
The Yankees were concerned enough about it that they called up Scott Procter from Columbus last Tuesday because they thought he might have to start in Johnson's place that night. It wouldn't have been a bad idea based on the fact Johnson was shelled and lasted just three innings before being replaced by Procter. Several Yankee staffers commented on this story under the condition of anonymity based on the ''sensitivity of the situation.'' As for Johnson himself, he's acting as if nothing is wrong. ''I'm getting ready for my next start. I'm going to put my last start behind me. I'm looking forward to my next start.''
