I've used that Hijackthis tool and found it pretty easy to use. What seems like might be happening is that a bug has placed itself into your start-up thingy(yes I am not a 'putor guru) Run the scan only option in the Hijackthis tool and it will show you all of the programs that are running. Check on this!!!! but I think if you come up with files name BHO that you need to delete them. They are hi-jackers and start when you start your pc so your adware can't fix them. Hope that helps.

it seems to me that spybot and ad aware haven't been updated in a long time and are becoming less effective. i recommend microsoft's spyware program. i forget the name at the moment, but its a free download and i've heard nothing but good things from IT people. apparently it uses the latest everything. it caught a bunch of stuff, including a few trojans , that had slipped through spybot and adaware from me. when i get home i can give the link for a great site for getting rid of spyware.

It seems they go in cycles -- especially Adaware. I remember there was a little lull a couple months ago and then there were updates every few days it seemed. I've heard good things about the M$ program, but I'll be very surprised if they'll be as diligent keeping it updated once they've gained a foothold in the anti-spyware market.

Just be careful with HijackThis because you can be screwed if you delete the wrong files. That's why I like RegMechanic. You fix the problem at the source.......the registry. Corrupt keys are a haven for that stuff.

you need to use caution with nay of them I guess. I used regmechanic once, or should say misused, and lost a program. You can try going to this site

this is the most thorough spyware removal site i've seen. it helped to get rid of everything, including that annoying aurora thing, without any catch.
