It's his last year under contract and San Fran is awful. There's been alot of buzz that he can and will be traded before July 31st. My question is, what teams will be involved, and how much will it take to get him?
Baseball Tonight threw out the Orioles a couple days back as a possible destination for Schmitt as a game one starter, that is of course they think they'll be in a game one situation by the deadline they'd make a move. They didnt' say who would be heading in the otehr direction though.
I would think it depends on whether SF wants NY to pick up his contract. If so, then it probably wouldn't take much. If not, then it would probably take two prospects.

You'd figure that SF would want NY to pick up the contract or at least a chunk of it. I think that if NY wanted him, they'd find a way to get him and from the way it looks they may need to be looking for pitching around the deadline the way that Pavano is.
Being a Schmitt owner I wouldn't be bothered if he went to the Yanks, there may be more wins over there than in SF, ya never know.
On Mike and the Maddog just now, Russo (Giants fan) proposed a trade to Mike (Yankee fan) of Schmidt for Wang and Cano.
I assume he also wants the contract picked up, but Russo is an idiot so I'm not putting any stock into his offer.
What worried me is that Mike actually had to thing for about 5 minutes before he said no. Not that Mike has much of a brain either, but either has the Yankees front office in recent years.
I wouldn't mind getting Schmidt in New York, but I wouldn't give more than Wang to get him. Certainly not Cano, IMO.
sabean said yesterday before the game that trading schmidt would be "a reach". he also said that he wasnt in talks with anybody who's considered a premium player on their roster. although he did then say that all of this could change based on the teams performance and the trade market regarding potential free agents.
The D'Backs have gotten a real good look @ Schmidt over their last mettings, they are 3.5 back today and I think they think they can make a run at the West this year... that may be a nice fit?
