Fuentes on the move?

Postby gofish » Fri Jun 24, 2005 12:59 pm

Would this guy be a good buy low candidate for a closer? Colorado seems interested in moving him.
According to The Miami Herald's Clark Spencer, the Florida Marlins offered minor-league P Yorman Bazardo and SS Josh Wilson to the Colorado Rockies for P Brian Fuentes, but the Marlins balked when Colorado demanded that RP Guillermo Mota be included in the deal.
My only worry is he would get traded somewhere and become a setup man instead of closer. :-?

I would think that he would most likely end up a set up guy...but I don't know for sure...no crystal ball here!!!

Honestly I think he'd set up in Fla unless Jones implodes. He's pitched well enough to deserve the job until he proves otherwise.

There 28 other teams, than the Rockies and Marlins, and a month + to the trading deadline. I think Fuentes will close for about 1/2 the season in a different jersey.

I'm just saying that if he did end up with Fla he most likely would not close. I'd say 2-1 against.

Fuentes has done a nice job for the Rockies, but he's looked upon as more of a setup man than a closer. If he gets dealt, it would be as a lefty specialist/setup type.

And there are plenty of teams that may have interest in Fuentes to fill that role, which indicates that keeping Jay Witasick on your watch list may be worthwhile.

If he ended up in FLA, I agree he's likely a set-up man. With Jones and Mota, I doubt they give Fuentes a shot as many teams seem to prefer righty closers.

As for other teams, I guess it depends on who he ends up. If it were the Braves, e.g., I could see him continuing to close.
