Honestly, think about it. You have to know that baseball players get together and form their own leagues. But there would have ot be certain rules, of course, because they'd be a little biased.
Think about it: Scott Podsednik has had a few 3+ stolen bases this year. He'd obviously play in a H2H league, and owned himself, and happened to fall behind by a stolen base or two for the week.. So he decides to steal 3 bases to give himself the lead and a little cushion.
Or, Randy Johnson's in a roto league where he's in second in ERA. He purposely blows up that night so he can take over first.
i have been privileged to speak on several occasions with a certain cardinals pitcher. when first i met him, he asked if i owned him on any of my fantasy leagues. when i replied that i'm only involved in one league, and that yes, i owned him in that league, he beamed, "me, too!" probably best not to blow up his spot, because i'm not sure of the legalities or whatever, but interesting nonetheless, yes?
For some reason I thought it would be illegal to play fantasy baseball for money if you were a player, but I guess not. I would guess 25% or less, but i have absolutly no idea.
I bet they couldn't play for money, but they could probably play in free leagues. I doubt there is a ruling on it, and officials I'm sure don't care unless a moment comes up where a player did something so his fantasy team succeeded... Which would be awesome.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
