WSOP Main Event

A buddy of mine just won a 10 dollar online tournament with the main prize being a buy in to the 2005 WSOP Main Event! Incredible...any other amazing poker stories around these parts? I just played poker and was the seat right next to him Friday night in our own No Limit Poker Tournament, and now that buy in is going to increase from 20 dollars to 10,000....good lord.

I took a final stab at winning a seat earlier tonight in a Quadruple Shoot-Out at Stars, but got eliminated at the 3rd table. Ah well, it happens, and there's always next year.

Nothing nearly as special, but I placed 62 in a 6000 person tourney on Pokerstars.

Flop comes: 2, J, 7 hearts... After I nearly shit myself, I bet, he goes all in, I call. He outchips me slightly, but I've got this in the bag. I've got the nut flush, right?

Our cards flip. He's got pocket 10s, hearts and spades. Not TERRIBLE I guess, playing a middle pair and a draw, but whatever. Turn comes, 10 clubs. River, well, you can probably guess by now... 10 diamonds.

I cry...

I've had a nut flush while my opponent has gotten two runners for the FH. Not pleasant, I have to say.

Best shot I had this year I wound up 5th out of 600+. Winner got the $10,000 buy in, 9 days hotel, airfare, and $1,000 in spending money. Down to the final 5 and got knocked out when my pocket queens got taken out by pocket 10's that hit a set on the flop.

Freeroll winner at Pokerstars.

Basically a waste of time though. Top 9 get an entry into another freeroll with a dinky $100 first place prize. I don't even bother with freerolls anymore.

Did take 17th in a $10+$1 last night. Paid $92.33. Can't complain for 4 hours of work.

I came second in a freeroll once. Took all day and I only won $50

No more freeroll for me. But I've found that people try a lot harder in the pay tourneys

I used to play in home games with Steven Hudak who is placing pretty high in some of the early tournaments and took 2nd in a NL HE tourney early on. I also played NL HE at the Palms 2 years ago with Joe Awada for like 9 hours.
