I was at the Angel game a week ago when they were playing the Nats. Erstad was going for a 16 game hitting streak at the time. He was walked his first 3 times in the game and got a hit in the 9th to extend it.
I was wondering during the game, would his streak have been snapped if he went 0-0 with 4BB? Is a hitting streak based on PA or AB?
It's based on games with a hit. 0-0 does not count, and would snap a hitting streak. That's one of the reasons why it's so hard. Even if a batter reaches on an error or HBP, the streak stops.

Yes, the streak would have been snapped. Must have a hit in any game played for the streak to continue.

Rut roe, I hope you guys didn't bet the bank in Final Jeopardy.
If all your ABs result in a base on balls it does not snap a consecutive game hitting streak. Defensive interference, HBP, and sac bunt also does not snap a hitting streak. Its not completely based on either AB or PA because a sacrifice fly would break the streak.

Did it change recently? I could have sworn that 0/0 with 4 BB's used to end a hitting streak.
Maybe I'm just thinking of the Beat the Streak game at MLB.com though.

Well color me pink, I could've sworn it was the other way around. You're the man when it comes to stuff like this, so I'll take your word for it.
