I started playing when I was 13, still play (almost 25 now). I learned by playing Nirvana, Beatles, and Green Day, and then moved on to harder stuff like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, and eventually Led Zep, Hendrix, Cream, Pantera, Tool. I love playing Clapton's solos, they're unbelievably smooth.
I use RUKind too, awesome site. Ultimate-guitar.com, olga.net.

We used to cover a lot of Tool in my old band in high school. Those were always the best because you could just grind along. We played a lot of Pumpkins too. I'd always try to get the other guys to play Dark Star, but nobody was good enough to play for 20 minutes without having it sound like total crap after a point.
I've been playing on and off for 4 years now. Mostly acoustic stuff. As far as tablature, I use http://www.olga.net, it seems to be pretty comprehensive...
