Time to give up on Padilla?

Postby jdh » Wed Jun 04, 2003 10:15 pm

I was wondering what everyone thought about Padilla. He has been horrible for a good 7 or 8 straight starts, and was horrible again tonight. Is he worth hanging onto or is it time to give up on him in mixed leagues?

I've been seeing him get dropped left and right in many of my leagues and I've gone and picked him up in most cases. He has been terrible but I can't believe he has just suddenly become a horrible pitcher. I have been holding him out lately. My guess is that there is no one better available in most leagues. I would hold judgement on him for at least a couple, three more starts......

I am thinking about dumping him and grabbing Johan Santana, who is in the Twins' rotation now that Reed is on the DL. Padilla came out of nowhere first half last year, then badly faded the second half. And he has been inconsistent and generally bad so far this year, so I am beginning to wonder if his first half last year was just a fluke.
