I picked him up (7-team, 5x5 roto) after his recent 3-steal game because I'm in a TIGHT race for SBs.
Today, for the second straight day, he's not in the lineup and there's no recent fantasy spin on him in Yahoo.
I've read on this forum about how he's not playing full-time but this seems ridiculous. The guy is batting .288 and his splits are decent. And the 21 SBs and 36 runs in limited playing time speak for themselves.
It seems Cinci has a logjam everywhere. That's the only real explanation. Before they sent Kearns down they had a similar problem in their OF. With Randa hitting well since coming off the DL, at bats need to come from somewhere, and Freel has been the main guy to lose them of late.
I dumped Freel about a week ago for Polanco after Polanco went to Detroit. At the time, I was hesitant, but I think that was a good move now. Freel is delicate and sits a lot.
He does get minor injuries alot, but I'll keep repeating it again and again until you guys understand: Cincy (for some inexplicable reason) doesn't want Freel starting. They like having him as a utility guy coming off the bench. They're happy he has a stubbed toe and can sit him for a week without too many people getting upset.
This is what you're going to get out of Freel all year - good, bad, or otherwise. Great stats, and at multiple thin positions, when he plays... but no clue when to start him on your fantasy team.
I'm telling you, just wait until Anderson Machado gets called up soon. You won't know what limited playing time for Freel really is until Machado comes up. - Assuming our GM still has a job when he comes up, though odds are very good he will still have his job for the next 2 years even if we're the last place team in baseball.
