Michael Campbell from my home town of Wellington, New Zealand has just won the 2005 U.S Golf Open.
And just to add icing to the cake, Tiger Woods along with his New Zealand caddy Steve Williams (also from Wellington) finished second.
To put this into context, this is the greatest sporting achievement by a New Zealander since John Walker won the 1500m gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
I love this country.

I'm a fairly big golf fan and during the broadcast they were talking about how much it would mean to New Zealand if he won. Of course I have no idea how big this is to your country, but anyways congrats to Michael Campbell Tiger made it interesting in the end also, although he sort of choked bogeying the 16th and 17th.
Congrats to Campbell. I played that course 2 weeks ago and after knowing how hard it was I give him all my respect. I was pulling hard for my boy Tiger but after Campbell won and I saw the emotion I was happy he did.
There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

what, no love for the all blacks?
The New Zealand All Blacks are the greatest rugby team in the world, always have been and possibly always will be but in all honesty Rugby is not a truly international game.
Soccer
Golf
Tennis
Olympics
are really the only sports that count on a genuine international stage and what Campbell did today is way better than anything the All Blacks have done, including the 1987 World Cup.
1963 was the last time a New Zealander won a golf major. We've never won a tennis grand slam event and our soccer team is as good at soccer as the USA is at rugby
For a small country (population 4 million) we have had an incredible amount of success at the Olympics but nothing since 1976 to compare with this.
A great day, MC you are the man
