Last I heard, the Giants were going to decline the '06 option. If they're gonna do that, it would make sense to trade him since the Giants aren't going to contend in that division this year.

What are some possibilites for a new home for Schmidt?
NY/Bos are the usual suspects, especially since it's looking like there's a good chance only one will make the post season. But the Yanks really don't have much to offer in return and have been talking about cutting payroll anyways. The Sox already have one-to-many in their rotation once Schilling returns.
Who does that leave? The Cubs probably wouldn't do it unless they found out Wood or Prior were gone for the year, but it wouldn't be a bad fit. I can't really see the Chi-Sox or Cards going for him considering how good they've been so far.
Maybe Texas would take on some extra salary to make a push out West? Just a guess...

I would lean most heavily towards Boston right now. Baltimore actually makes the most sense in terms of needing a #1 though. I'm assuming Schmidt has a no-trade clause of some sort in there, and Sabes won't trade within the division. Though if that were the case, the DBacks have quite a few prospects.
However, if we see a pretty quick return to form from Schmidt, there would probabaly be a bunch of teams beating Sabean's door down.
