The headline at ESPN is "Kruk thinks Craig Counsell could be an NL MVP candidate." From the Insider article, Kruk explains, "If the D-Backs win the NL West, some people better start talking about Counsell for MVP because he's going to be the reason they win."
Not to beat a dead horse, but mainstream baseball commentary/analysis has to be at an all-time low. This is absolutely laughable.
For some reason I just don't think this is possible. he's averaging .292 with 5 hr's, 24 rbi's, 9 sb's and 43 runs. Not even close to MVP #'s. Even if they won and someone had to get the MVP on their team it would be Gonzo......
Kruk isn't articulate enough to make what could have been a good point.
Counsell is in no way, shape or form an MVP candidate. It's a totally absurd stance from Kruk, but one that we should all be used to by now. Let's face it, he was hired because he's a fat and kind of funny looking ex-player who says whatever pops into his head. I imagine David Wells is next in line for this position once he retires from playing.
As for Counsell, he's having a very nice season and has been a real catalyst for the Diamondbacks. They wouldn't be where they are in the divisional race without him. That hardly qualifies him for even the bottom of an MVP ballot.

Exactly. John Kruk sucks man, he doesn't know what he's talking about half the time... and Counsell as MVP is absurd. Derek Lee or Dontrelle Willis at this point.
