i've often mused as to why a game would start at 7:05, 7:10 or 7:15 (why not just start @ 7 or 7:30?) but tonight's toronto/milwaukee game really takes the cake:
7:07
huh? what's the desired effect of being this specific in your start time?
That and maybe the train thats near the park doesn't get their till 6:50, then you gotta walk 7 min to the park, then 7 min to your seat. I don't really care, just as long as they play.
every blue jay home game this year has been scheduled to start x:07 or x:37. it hasn't made sense since day one. maybe it's as a warning to visiting broadcast team that every game here requires two anthems, but that wouldn't really explain why games used to start at x:05 in every other year.
the first pitch of tonight's game was thrown at 7:10, which is kinda ironic in this context.

the shows that start at xx:05 or xx:35 is a result of Ted Turner's brain.... he started his shows 5 minutes after the other shows due to one main reason,,,, so if a viewer was a channel flipper at say 8:00 then with TBS show coming on at 8:05, then the channel flipper would not miss any of the TBS show due to the show starting 5 minutes after all the other shows did..... this is why the braves games always started at 7:35 and not 7:30,,,, gave u a chance to flip through some channels and not miss none of the braves....
I always thought the 7:05 baseball starting time was so that a TV broadcast could have just a little bit of an opening without having the first pitch 10 seconds into the show. It gives the announcers time to run through the starting line-ups and the starting pitchers, talk about how each team is doing and get in that all-important commercial break before the beginning of the first inning.
Can't help much with the 7:07 start time other than what's been mentioned by others. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a gimmick though. Back a few years ago, when the Stockton minor league team in the Cal League was called the Mudville Nine, all their games started at 7:09, or some similar time. Just a way to get the brand out there, I guess.

That's the reason right there. Most people tune in at the top of the hour regardless of the starting time as long as it's not too close to quarter after. My guess would be that the Blue Jays have sold a certain amount of fixed ad space prior to each game that allows them to fill exactly 7 minutes. They simply bent the starting time of the game to match that.

This is even more significant when you consider that, as of this season, Ted Rogers owns: the team; their stadium; and the television network that broadcasts the vast majority of their games. Hmm..
