Yeah, I don't care if he votes away from his party. Off the top of my head, campaign finance reform is what I can't stand most about the guy. Total sham.

I'm sorry, would you mind elaborating why its a sham? I know some about the issue but not as much as I would like.

Well, I don't know if this is what JT was referring to, but one of the problems has been huge loopholes that have allowed enormous amounts of money to flow to campaigns, in new channels that didn't previously exist. But this has more to do with special interests, the two parties and the FEC than with anything McCain or Feingold did. Basically, everybody who thrives on big money in DC -which is most people - worked their way around the reforms, which maybe could have been stronger.

Yep. All the "reform" was realign how the soft money flowed. It didn't really change anything.

Well, I don't know you can blame McCain and Feingold for that. Taking on big money in DC in one try is like trying to empty a river with a bucket.

especially since it sounds like a lot of liberals on the fence would vote for him.

"we are going to have to take money away from you, to give to the common good"

Hillary Clinton

Yeah. I think McCain is far more conservative than he lets on, if only for that sole reason of 'winning over' the moderate liberals. He'd be a great candidate and a lock to win if he won the Republican candidacy.

That said, I think there are better options as far as from a philosophical standpoint, but few have the draw that someone like McCain would have. Anything to keep Hillary out of office. Ugh would that be terrible. :-P

(I tried to keep this post as unpolitical as I could.)

I think it's time they left this issue alone. The family has suffered enough.
