His stuff this outing was flat nasty. My only problem in picking him up was that I think I grabbed him too early and gave up too much for that point in the season (Bonderman, Moyer, Wells and Lyon). If I'd waited another start or two when I did it until mid-May instead of the beginning of May I bet I could have kept Bonderman and still got him
Yeah, I think he's back. You can write off Pitt as a weak team, but you can't say the same about St. Louis. Beyond that, his stuff has been much better across the board: faster fastball, slider that slides more, and much better control. Last night, he was nearly incapable of throwing a ball (and I think some of his pitches that were called balls were strikes) and that doesn't depend on who's at the plate.
He's also more fired-up out there. The Randy Scowl is back, he's cursing under his breath at balls, and he's generally just much more intense than he has been. THAT'S the real RJ, for better or worse.
Amazingly enough, I think still he has some room to improve. His slider is biting more consistently, but it still has a tendency to be a bit flat. With a little more bite, he'll be unhittable.
I am the Master. Don't question the Master. Just do what he says and be proud.

When Randy pitched against Milwaukee there was a 3 pitch sequence to Brady Clark, the sequence where he quick-pitched him, where he went 100, 101, 100mph in consecutive pitches. Right then, I knew he was back. He was filthy last night and virtually unhittable. The best sign is 0 BB in his last 2 starts. When Randy is throwing strikes and getting people out is when you know he's back to his usual self. I expect a Cy Young-like second half from him.
