Torii Hunter is this year's Beltran

Postby Mookie4ever » Thu Jun 16, 2005 2:43 pm

A four cat stud who won't kill your BA. Sure sounds a lot like Beltran last year.

Hunter is now .276 11 HR 41 RBI 39 R 14 SB
projected to almost a 30-30 year with 100 RBI and 100 Runs

That's a $49 value in a 5x5 roto auction with a $260 cap. That's the third best OF behind only Abreu and Carlos Lee. If he finishes at this pace he will post career highs in SB, RBI and Runs. The difference b/w him and Beltran though is that Torii will probably stay right where he has played for the past 8 years.

Well I'm glad I have him in my auction at $5 for this year and the next. :-) But I don't really see the SB being there. He stole 11 the first month and 3 in the past 2 months. He is a nice guy to have but he isn't going to match Beltran's numbers from last year.

Those SB numbers are misleading though if you play in H2H (as I do). He stole 11 bases in April and only 3 since. I love the guy and he's been my top-producing outfielder but it doesn't seem like he's getting the greenlight nearly as much. I'm not sure you can count on him for 30 SBs at this point--20 seems much more likely (averaging two per month for the rest of the season), which is nothing to get excited about.

I dont think it is a matter of getting the green light. Torii has been banged up.

Yeah, I was about to say that it's not so much getting the green light as it has been his sore groin.

Hunter is a vet who has only been caught 4 times for a 78% SB which is pretty good. I think that he will pick his spots and only steal in the right situations and I believe that he will reach 30 this year.

It is not just his groin either. I read on Rotoworld (5/28) that he was having back and knee problems too. 30/30 seems like a stretch.

I think Hunter has been much more valuable in roto this year, as Mr. Shipbuilder stated. Eight steals in a couple weeks don't help quite as much in H2H..
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

I don't know why people are saying that he is less valuable in H2H. SB is a cat in H2H as well. Unless you are talking about a points league. If that's the case, then yes, just like pods, Crawford, Pierre etc. anybody who steals is going to be less valuable in a points league.
