How about that, Manny gets his 8th assist tonight to tie him for the ML lead.
Just wanted to give the guy some love since he always gets blasted for his defense (and rightfully so most times).
Of course someone will now prove to me that defensive assists aren't statistically a good thing or something like that and I'll look like a moron but it won't be the first time and sure as hell not the last
Go Manny

Outfeild assists are a good stat. You have to be able to gun it from the outfield and have your throw right on the money to get a guy out.

Ah...if you have a good arm, they do not run on you in the first place. Not too many guys trying to go 1st to third on Vladdy. They do not respect Manny. Why should they? This is the same guy that playing RF during the ALCS with Cleveland against the Yanks jumped for a ball at the wall in right only to see the ball hit the dirt on the warning track on front of him.

i've said it before, i'll say it again...many is far from great, but at this point in his career he's also far from the terrible outfielder people think he is. this is thanks in part to the limited area in left field at fenway, manny has really adapted to playing there. he also has the quickest release of any outfielder in the american league, i read on one scouting website, and this is being proven evident by the assist totals

I'd think Matsui has to be up there for quick releases. Can't say I've watched that part of Manny's game. If true, at least he does something well in the field.

Well, he does have a damn good arm, we can all agree on that. It's his decision making that's suspect. But, he's a great all around athlete, even if he makes some boners, and I like to see some respect.
