The "no lineup protection" argument doesn't work, because he had none last year and still hit .347. His OBP is at .385 which is pretty high, but still off his normal mid .400s. Thus, it's not like pitchers are always bypassing him. This is just an extended slump and being one of the best hitters of the game playing at Coors' Field, will end eventually. He's one of the best buy lows at this point. Without a great lineup, he won't put up first round numbers, but will still be a 2-3 round player.
I hope you're right, Warrick. I'm pulling for you big time.
My feeling about Todd Helton can be summed up with the following quote from DJ Gallo of sportspickle.com...
Criticize him if you want to, but I think it was very courageous for Clint Barmes to come out and admit that he was injured while holding Todd Helton’s meat.
I wonder what Helton's trade value is now? Early in the season when Helton was slumping I maintained that I would not trade either Ortiz or Teixeira for him, and was shot down by a number of posters. Obviously Helton's value is way below their values now - but what level is it at? Justin Morneau? Jim Thome? Sean Green? Mike Sweeney? Lower?

Straight up deals...
Todd Helton for Carlos Beltran Accepted Week 10 Todd Helton for Adrian Beltre Accepted Week 10 Todd Helton for Lance Berkman Accepted Week 10 Todd Helton for Miguel Cabrera Upheld Week 10 Todd Helton for Jim Edmonds Accepted Week 10 Todd Helton for Dontrelle Willis Accepted Week 10 Todd Helton for Brandon Inge Accepted Week 1
I keep saying it: lineup protection is pretty much a myth.
If Helton isn't hitting, it's not because he's surrounded by a bunch of no-namers, it's because he's simply not hitting. Now, his run and RBI totals might take a hit, but his overall production (OBP, SLG, etc.) shouldn't take a hit depending on who hits behind him.

that'd be absolutely stupid to do. bench him? sure/yes/duh/whatever. DROP HIM? i wish i played in leagues where it had managers like that.

By the way, if you don't read this website, you need to.
This stuff is amazing:
And as long as they position her on the hood with her crotch facing the windshield so she wouldn’t inflate during the race, I can’t think of a single reason not to do it.
