Guilty Pleasure CDs.....?

Here's an idea... What's a CD/album you really like, which is NOT universally considered "cool" in most circles?

I think you know what I'm asking, nobody should answer with "Dark Side of the Moon" or "Joshua Tree"... I'm talking about albums that are either by less-than-cool artists, OR were commercial flops by established artists.


I'll start with one that sort of fits both of those criteria: "An Innocent Man" by Billy Joel. Billy is a bit of a tool, and while he's had some critically acclaimed and hugely commercially successful albums, "An Innocent Man" was pretty quickly forgotten.

But.... I LOVE it.


It's was Joel's tribute to 50's-60's Shoo-Wopp rock, and it's a very listenable, wonderfully produced album. It had a couple of not-so-great radio singles, like "Uptown Girl" and "The Longest Time" but deeper cuts like "Careless Talk", "This Night" and "Easy Money" are much, much better cuts. Overall it's a CD that FREQUENTLY finds its way into my car CD player.



Okay.... I've shared.... let's see who's got the guts to admit to the guilty pleasure in their CD case.

I doubt many of you have heard of him, hes pretty good and worth checking out.. but hes kinda country/folkish.. and alot of my friends are rap/rock so to them its like wtf is this..


but my really deep deep guilty pleasure that i hide like its a porno is my backstreet boys cd....

If I remember right, it was never cool to like Hootie and the Blowfish, but I love Cracked Rear View. Also, anything by BareNaked Ladies. I don't think they fall under the "cool" label.

Back in the day I used to love Soul Asylum's Grave Dancers Union. Weird thing is when I got to college one of the guys that ended up being a future roommate (actually he lives in the same house as me, I guess that's a housemate?) also had the same strange obsession with the CD. Sometimes when we're drinking the CD will get popped in because people know we'll both sing along to every word.

I think the barenaked ladies are rather under appreciated, they are actually a very good band, some of their songs, some are like.. whyd you ever make this (well, i just find the million dollars song anoying)

Yeah, these types of albums seem to be what I enjoy most. They're the disappointing albums (per mainstream) that followed a more popular album.

I used to be one of those stupid punk rock kids... so for me, when I want to indulge I put on Dead Kennedys or the Misfits.

Or some NWA or Eazy-E. Always gotta have the windows rolled up for them though.
