I'm with ya. Does a Mitre/Patterson or Mitre/Dubois really equal Sheff? This seems like not enough help in pitching to really be worth the downgrade out OF to me. As a Lee owner I'd love to see Sheff go to the Cubs, but wouldn't this not really help the Yankees at all? The pitching has struggled, but I don't think Mitre would be it. I hope for you Yankees fans that if Sheff does get dealt that you get more than that for him.
Like I said - RUMOR - so don't get too tied up about it.
Just seems so unlike the Yankees - trading a star for potential young talent? Odd...

Basically, they're going to trade Sheff to stockpile some cheaper talent, and then trade that talent for more parts to try to help them win now. I just don't see them keeping CPatt or Dubois or Mitre or whoever and rebuilding as a younger team.
I still can't believe that they didn't sign Beltran. Of all the players that would have helped them now and in the future, he would have had to have been the best option.

Exactly.

Glad they didn't. Not worth the contract. JD Drew would have been the better move IMO.

the boss wanted beltran and martinez......but others thought that they could do without...
Sheff is the one good, reasonably-priced, not entirely over-the-hill major league trade chip NYY have right now. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him go, but I think the Yanks will want more for him than that, unless they're actually out of it by the deadline.
