What is wrong with Jason Schmidt?

Postby Tony Clark is my son » Mon Jun 13, 2005 4:44 pm

His ERA is in the sixes? This is not the Cy Young candidate I am familiar with from the past two seasons. Giants fans and fantasy owners alike must be very confused, does anyone know why he is so much worse this year than last?

he may still be injured, he has not had his usual control or velocity. last game i watched he was throwing 90 mph instead of last years 95. his k to bb ratio is 59 to 36 which is about 1.5 to 1. last year his k:bb was 251:77 or 3.5 to 1.

Schmidt hasn't looked right since late April. I'm of the opinion that he's either hurt or fatigued.

I'm just trying to figure out what it is, everyone has theories but no one seems to have one, definitive answer.

The only person that could know the definitive answer isn't being forthcoming on the issue (and might not even know himself). In absence of that theories are the best we're going to get.

Yeah, that's true. I just wish someone knew. Because injuries are a reasonable guess, as Schmidt has a history there. Funky mechanics can also be to blame for a pitcher's (or anybody's) slump.

Anyways, sorry for being so demanding. Just it is frustrating for me, a Schmidt owner. Especially because he was the first pitcher I drafted.

Should I start Schmidt against the Diamondbacks tomorrow? He blanked the Tigers over 8 last time, so now I'm not sure what to do.

Last game he seemed to do fine. He gave up no runs on 7 innings, so thats good. I dont know what everyone is worried about, this guy is capable of coming back.

His fastball's gone down the crapper, and he's forced to rely more on his off-speeds.
