Boxing has sucked since the early 90's on the whole. I just can't trust a sport where two gys from the same stable fight each other. Don King is a con artist and people have been falling for his fraudulent promotions for years.
I grew up watching Mike Tyson obliterate people in the ring. Bought all his fights on Pay-Per-View with allowance and lawn mowing money. Also taped them since they were usually very short. Lol. Even predicted the Douglass win, but I don't want to get too deep into that subject since I still remind my father how much money he cost me since he wouldn't place the bet for me (I was only 15 at the time).
Anyway, Tyson was a monster and no one has come close in recent history of sparking boxing the way Tyson did. I agree with Nomar that boxing definitely needs a spark. I don't even bother watching or following it anymore. Tyson's just always a big story since you never know what's going to happen when he gets in a ring now.
Shame he fell so far though. I actually looked up to his ability quite a bit when I was a kid. Now he's nothing more than a shocker freakshow. Real shame. It could have ended so much differently.

I might be one of the few, but how about we just let boxing die. Personally I don't like the sport, if you can even call two men beating each other up a sport, but the competition in it just gets worse and worse.
Also on Tyson, yes in his prime he was very good, though who did he really beat? Seems like the most part that he beat up on a bunch of inferior opponents.

In his prime, every boxer out there was inferior to Tyson.
A few of the notables: Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Frank Bruno (I really expected a good fight there--wasn't bad, 5 or 6 rounds, but could have been better), Carl "the Truth" Williams, "Bonecrusher" Smith, Trevor Berbick, and I'm sure I probably forgot a few.

Well the best one that you named, Larry Holmes, was on the decline and was 39 when he faced Tyson. To me those are a lot of good boxers, but not any great ones .... which is my point. IMO he never had any real classic fights against other great fighters in their prime.

Yeah, Holmes was on his way out regardless of that fight. There were just no really big names in their prime at the time Tyson was on top. Probably all in hiding.
