Can I get rid of Mota now?

Postby Mercer Boy » Fri Jun 10, 2005 11:49 pm

Obviously he's not getting the job done at this point. Todd Jones is still kicking butt, and Mota gave up 2 ER's while getting no one out tonight.

Am I just supposed to bench this guy until he's useful again, or can I maybe put my roster spot to good use elsewhere?

I cut him loose in my money league after tonight... it would take a pretty desperate owner to burn a roster spot by picking him up off waivers at this point, IMO.

If you think T. Jones is capable of holding the job the rest of the year, then drop Mota. I personally don't. However I agree that if there are better options out there (like Street), then let Mota be someone else's problem.

I dropped him after making a trade for him earlier in the year. Even when he gets the job back, I'm thinking he might be along the lines of a LaTroy Hawkins. Excellent setup man when on his game but not a very good closer.

Yeah I think it's safe to drop him.

I think the only way for him to get the job back as Closer is if Jones gets injured. Mota has been terrible. Try picking up a good reliever ;-D

I dropped him for Todd Jones, who was a FA in my league, last week, just in time to miss his horrendous outings :-°

No, do not drop him. Mota has really good stuff and in my opinion, should end up closing sometime. To say that he is a bad closer is not exactly a strong argument, because the sample size of the time he closed is too small.

I also do not trust Todd Jones to keep this up at all and once the Marlins generate more save opportunities, he should begin blowing some. As long as Mota's healthy, he has the stuff to be dominant.

The only real worries I have about him are:
a. injury risk because he pitched a LOT of innings the past few years...he might be pitching hurt
b. the little feud he has going on with McKeon...that sure as hell won't put him in a positive light.
