I've been chasing the Rays

this, gentlemen, is called "spot-starting", and it can be done but is somewhat risky. because even the worst teams can have huge nights (as the royals and diamondback showed us earlier tonight).

in my experience, it's something of a crap shoot, and since i found myself to be pretty poor at picking the right guys to spot start, i just don't do it. however, some people do and it can be beneficial. just bear in mind the risk: even if you're starting a mediocre pitcher against a crappy offense, you're still starting a mediocre pitcher. ;-)

Kazmir gave up 9 runs in 4.2 in. People are calling this spot starting. No not so. I am not spot starting from my bench.
I am droping players off of my team and picking up players off the WW who play on the next team that TB plays. Milwaukee next. I drop one or two bench players off some of my teams. Tonight Mackowiak and Ward are 5/11, 4R, & 5 RBI. I think I'll have to hold on to both of them after this TB series. That will put an end to Rays chasing for a while.

someone said they picked up redman. i'd keep him, he isn't ranked that high because of low win total but he's been pitching great. very dependable so far and he's on a nice hot streak win-wise. to make this relate to the topic, i think its a good idea if you could get away with it. if all the guys are ww throw-offs in your league it'll work, but if you drop a solid guy for a less solid one because of the matchup and he gets taken it could bite you in the ass.

Yeah, there's no way I would get rid of Redman at this point. He's pitching great this year. With an ERA under 3 and a whip near 1, how can you not ride the wave?

Plus, the Pirates are actually hitting the ball right now, so he might get you some more wins. ;-D

The Rays are in pretty bad shape. Look at some of the quotes from Huff after tonight's game:

Yahoo! Sports wrote:``I've never seen anything that stinks like this,'' Aubrey Huff said. ``This is bad. We keep saying 'keep your head up, keep your head up, and good things will happen.' But good things never seen to happen around here.''

Asked if he feared the season is spiraling out of control, Huff said, ``It already has spiraled out of control. We've won four games on the road. We get beat in every which way possible. How could it get any worse? If it happens like this the rest of the year, I don't know how much more guys can take.''

``Where do we make changes?'' manager Lou Piniella said about possible lineup alterations. ``The only people who can get this thing stopped is the players.''

Wow, those Huff quotes sure sound like they're coming from a guy who would definitely welcome a trade!

I guess I jinxed him.

He looked really good in his two previous starts. I still would not have stuck hitters into my lineup just to face Kazmir.
Be excellent to each other.

People are responding as if I'm dropping V. Wells for S. Casey. I dropped Mota, R. Wagner, & ect. Now that I have M. Redman, Ward and Mackowiak I'll hold them and cannot chase the Rays anymore. I'm trying to point out that if you have a weak bench it may make sense to dump your junk and chase the Rays.
