The times I went to Vegas were almost always about gambling, not the other stuff. When I'm there, I try to find a casino with the craps and blackjack tables I like, and I tend to just do some playing. I'm not big on the attractions. That's really why I don't bother to go to vegas anymore. I can drive two hours to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun in Connecticut for a gambling experience as good as any on the Vegas Strip.
My advice, however, is to look for the good shows that are playing. Singers, bands, comics, magic acts, etc. Those are often a good value. The rooms aren't too big, so you usually have a great seat no matter what. And ask the hotel conceriege for restaurant advice. There are SO MANY restaurants that it helps to get some expert advice.
