No takers? I have Ishii now, and am thinking about dropping him because his WHIP is so high, but wasn't sure whether I should pick up Foppert because of his big upside or Lawrence who is a decent pitcher making his next start against the Tigers. If anyone has an opinion on the matter, I would appreciate hearing it.
Lawrence is a pretty good pitcher, and should have a solid ERA and WHIP. The problem is his team is dreadful, and he won't get many wins. If you can take the WHIP hit, I'd hold on to Ischii, because he does get a decent amount of K's and is on a good team, that should win games. He could win 15 games easily. I expect his ERA to go up eventually, to around the 4.00 to 4.50 area, still not horrible. Foppert is too young and unproven to be messing around with in mixed leagues.
I agree with jdh. Lawrence is a proven veteran and a staff ace. I could go either way on Ishii/Foppert. Both are young and have a lot of upside. Foppert probably more so. Both play for good teams that should help with W's. Keeper league Foppert all the way.
I'm going against the flow here. I know Foppert at 21 in a non keeper is risky. But i would take him. One, they arent hitting him. In 48 innings, only 40 hits. Its his 30 walks that are hurting. But hes been cutting his walks down as the season progresses. In 5 of his last 7 starts, hes given up 2 runs or less. I dont like Ishii much, i would go Lawrence 2nd.
