What's the deal with Eldred, is he still the closer? He converted 4 straight save chances, and then had two appearances in which he let up 3 runs. Today he didn't get the save opportunity, Fassero did.
Why didn't he get it? Are the Cards just going to rotate RPs in the closer role?

Tony LaRussa doesn't know the first thing about managing a bullpen. I feel sorry for all of you that rely on Cards relief pitchers not named Izzy.
Bernie Miklasz [a local St. Louis sports writer] said on tv the other day that the Cards would like for Esteban Yan to Co-Close with Izzy when he came back to ease Izzy in after his injury.

So that leaves Yan, Eldred, and Fassero to get the saves chances. And I'm sure Tony will use all three, rather then have one settled into a role.

Good times to be a Cards fan! ;-7

He may have converted 4 in a row, but it was a wild ride. He has been pretty hittable recently so it's not surprising they've switched roles.

I got a save and a win out of him, but it wasn't a pretty thing to see. I bailed for Donnelly. Eldred is not the answer, and Izzy should be back soon anyways.

I don't rely on him, I have 4 other closers, all of them at least solid. I was just wondering.

From Rotoworld,

Cal Eldred was unavailable today because he was not feeling well.
We'll assume that this means he was ill, not that his arm was sore. Consider Eldred day-to-day.
