sweet. With barmes being hurt I desperately needed a 2B. Polanco should fit in nicely.

Tigers acquired infielder Placido Polanco from the Phillies for RHP Ugueth Urbina and infielder Ramon Martinez.
With the way Urbina has pitched the last two months, he might have brought a significant prospect or two at the deadline. Instead, the Tigers have parted with him for an immediate upgrade to their infield. Since the team is two games under .500 and already 11 games out in the AL Central, we don't like the strategy. Polanco almost certainly will replace the struggling Omar Infante as the team's primary second baseman, so he should have quite a bit of value in AL-only leagues. However, we wouldn't be shocked to see him dealt again next month.

Urbina was racking up saves. Eight in the past month. Now he'll do set up for Wagner. $#@%&. Oh hey, Dempster's available in my league...

From Fanball: "At this point, he will be the setup man for closer Billy Wagner and a solid option to pick up spot saves when Wagner needs rest."

Funny story. I dropped Uggie this morning to pick up Polanco (since C.Guillen status is questionable-- benched him). This was all BEFORE the trade went down. I assumed Uggie was not worth it since he was working setup for Perci.

I freaked out when I saw the headline that Uggie was traded. I thought: great... he will now be a closer, and I just dropped him to waivers.

But, fortunately, it was just to Philly, where they have Billy Wagner.

The hilarious part was that I swapped him for Polanco. Total coincidence? Maybe I should be assistant GM for Detroit? lol. :*)
